The summer heat is already here. Because of the heat, during these moths people are looking for a way to spend more time in the refreshing nature, usually in a thick shade by river, lake or sea. However, as
Ivana Visnjic reveals, it is difficult to only cool your body from the outside, because it is necessary to first cool it on the inside. This is also why we tend to remove those oily, fried and spicy foods from the menu, because they increase the body temperature. Apart from refreshing beverages, Ivana Visnjic recommends storing in your refrigeration light summer foods that contain lots of water, and are rich in antioxidants and nutrients. If you want to learn which summer foods have that powerful "cooling" effect, than this is the right article for you.
1st Watermelon
Did you know that watermelon, like melon, is also a vegetable? In addition to these facts, Visnjic informs that this round beauty contains more than 90% water, and is
rich in vitamins C and A, and minerals potassium and magnesium. Ripe watermelon is very tasty, and you can either consume it on itself, or you can add it to your favorite smoothie or fruit salad. Whatever you choose to consume it, there is no doubt that watermelon will cool you off.
2nd Mentha
Mentha, or simply known as mint, is an herb best known as a tea ingredient. In summer you can drink chilled peppermint tea, and in the evening you can put mint leaves in warm water, let it rest overnight and drink it in the morning. Instead of tea bags which of course you can get in every supermarket, Ivana Visnjic prefers to use dried mint leaves in bulk. If you’re looking to make up for lost fluids, all you have to do is add a few fresh mint leaves and a bit of lemon juice into cool, plain water.
3rd Fennel Seeds
This Mediterranean vegetable will bring you great benefit if you have digestive problems. Chew just a few fennel seeds after meal to ease the digestion. Fennel has excellent cooling effect. In summer, Ivana Visnjic likes cooking its seeds in water, and drink it as tea.
4th Cucumber
This popular and ubiquitous summer vegetable really deserves an honorable position, especially when it comes to cooling the body, due to the fact that it contains as much as 95% water. You can eat it as it is, without anything added to it, or mix it in a salad with lemon juice and
olive oil.
